Independence Day Layout

Do you know that Scrapbook & Cards Today has a monthly sketch challenge?  This month was a layout sketch from Page Maps.

I created this fun 4th of July page. This year I wasn't in the mode of taking a lot of photos so I just had a couple of pics so this sketch was perfect.
I used an assortment of die cuts from Pretty Little Studio, Elle's Studio, Studio G, My Mind's Eye, and Jillibean Soup.

   Here is a closer look.

The washi tape is from Hobby Lobby's seasonal themed collection.

Good Times & Good Food - SBC #462

Hope your weekend went as planned. Mine did. Saturday at was able to spend the day in the kitchen baking sugar cookies and sesame cookies. I also made hummus, falafel ans sesame seed sticks. Sunday I just frosted some of the sugar cookies, groomed Buster (bath, brushing and teeth cleaning) and went to a Christmas event at the historical village. It seems so wrong with Christmas right around the corner and it was in the 60's here in Michigan. My Christmas wish is snow.

Enough about my weekend and on to the Scrapbook Challenges sketch #462 reveal.

I think the stars on the sketch made me want to scrap the Independence day celebration from this year. By the way it went and me forgetting about dying the daisies for the table you could say we all had other things on our minds since a week later my dad and I were going to travel 230+ miles for my eye surgery in a town we never been to and never spoke to any of the doctors.
Supplies cardstock (The Paper Studio and Die Cuts With a View), pattern paper (My Mind's Eye, Crate Paper and Jillibean Soup), stickers (American Crafts, Prima and Simple Stories), twine (Timeless Twine), doily (Doodlebug Design), washi tape (My Mind's Eye, Bella Blvd. and Scotch Brand), stitching template (American Crafts), journaling card (Project Life), pen (Project Life), sequins (Fancy Pants), gelato (Faber-Castell), wood veneer (American Crafts), die cut (Jillibean Soup), border punch (Fiskars)

Here are some closer looks. I outlined the canvas stickers from Prima since after I applied the red gelato it blended in to the background too much.
Those sequins were from a winter collection from Fancy Pants but the colors were the right tone for the patriotic page.

Yumminess

Hope everyone's 4th went well. Yesterday, I spent a lot of the time in the kitchen cooking up a storm for my four member family.
The food consists of:
Baked chicken with homemade barbecue sauce
Mac & cheese
Baked beans
Garlic biscuits
Now on to the sweet treats:
Brownies (coconut and plain)
Greek yogurt cheesecake
Everything I made was from scratch.
My favorite thing was the cheesecake since it came out so creamy and had such a great flavor. I think it tastes better than the traditional cheesecake and the bonus is it does not have all that fat.  I know fat is good for you but in this house if my dad likes it he goes a little overboard. Plus, regular cheesecake causes his back to go out.
I combined two recipes make this. The crust came from this one and the filling came from this one. I also added the zest of one organic lemon to the filling.
Tip: make your own greek yogurt with plain yogurt by lining the bottom of a strainer with a coffee filter. Pour a carton of yogurt in it and cover with another filter. Place over a large bowl and let it drain overnight to a day. For this I used a caton and a half so I need to drained it in two strainers. I think it taste better than the store bought kind. It is not as tangy.
Here is how it looks.

Happy Independence Day

Today, is our nation's 237th birthday. To help decorate for such a special occasion I dyed some white daisies red and blue with neon food coloring.
I put 10 drops of red dye in a spice jar filled with water and stuck the white daisies into it. Did the same with the blue.
I did this overnight and this is how they looked this morning.
I mixed the flowers together and added clear water to the jars. I also tied a piece of twine around the neck of the jars.
Happy Fourth of July to all my blog readers and have a safe and fun day.
God Bless.

A Taped Layout + Card DT Call

Everyone that knows me knows that I have to have twine, mists, pom-pom trim or washi tape on my projects.  This Fourth of July page I created last week ended up have three of the four.
So when I saw the March challenge over at Love My Tapes I knew I wanted to play along.
I scraplifted this amazing layout by Heather Landry
When I punched out the star border I saved the negatives for the confetti scatters. This page has five different washi tapes on it too. I used the solid red as a border on the left side, polka dot under the photos and the banners on the side.
This was the first time I sewed with twine. I came out great.
Supplies: cardstock ( The Paper Studio, Bazzil Basics, and I don't know who made the red one.), pattern paper (The Paper Studio and Jillibean Soup) washi tape (Target and DoddleBug Designs) mist (Ranger), punches (Fiskars), twine (Timeless Twine), gems (KaiserCraft),cut-outs (Jillibean Soup), electronic cutter (Cricut, Opposites Attract cartridge and design Studio - Provo Craft), ink (Quick Quotes), pen (K&Co.), glassine bag,  journal spot (K&Co.) and doily.

Sketch~N~Scrap is expanding. They are going to start offering card sketches. Right now, they are looking for sketch and card designers. You can find all the information here.
